Hallmarking at Kolié: Your Guarantee of Quality and Trust

At Kolié, we are committed to offering fine jewellery that meets the highest standards of quality and craftsmanship. Hallmarking is an essential part of this commitment, ensuring that our customers receive gold jewellery that meets UK legal standards for purity and authenticity.

What is Hallmarking?

Hallmarking is a legal certification of the metal content in precious metals like gold. In the UK, gold items over 1 gram must be hallmarked by law to verify their purity. This provides customers with confidence in the quality of the jewellery they are purchasing.

Our Hallmarking Policy

At Kolié, all gold items exceeding the legal exemption weight are hallmarked according to UK law. This means that while many of our units carry a hallmark to certify their purity, some smaller items fall below the hallmarking exemption limit and therefore do not require one. Rest assured, all our jewellery is crafted from genuine gold, whether hallmarked or not.

Understanding the Hallmarks

Each hallmark is made up of several components that provide detailed information about the metal:

  • Sponsor’s Mark: Identifies the maker of the jewellery.
  • Metal and Purity Mark: Denotes the type and fineness of the metal, such as 9ct gold.
  • Assay Office Mark: Indicates where the item was tested and hallmarked, such as Edinburgh.

The Hallmarking Process at Kolié

The hallmarking process involves rigorous testing by the Edinburgh Assay Office to ensure the gold meets the necessary standards. Each item that exceeds the exemption weight is sent to be tested and hallmarked before being offered for sale.

Legal Hallmarking Requirements

In the UK, hallmarking is governed by the British Hallmarking Council. All Kolié products that are required to be hallmarked are fully compliant with these regulations, providing you with peace of mind when buying fine jewellery.
